The goal of project RITA is to create quality assistive devices and accessibility aids by utilizing (primarily) recycled components and e-waste.
Each device should target high impact consumer goods (hard to recycle, mass produced, built in obsolescence), while offering innovative and tangible solutions for production (minimal energy investment).
devices:
RITA1 - Rapid Interactive Transcription Aid
This example demonstration of the project concept in action is a practical, easy to operate, and low-cost transcription aid made by consuming and old family tablet computer, and pairing it with open source speech recognition software and a simplified runtime environment.
By adapting this product framework many existing consumer devices at or nearing end of life can be repurposed with little investment from recyclers.
